Sugar...bum bum bum bum bum bum...ohh honey honey...

As I was getting my cardio on today I was watching The Rachel Ray show, and they were talking about sugar consumption. I love this topic because I think if individuals who were trying to lose weight realized that sugar was the reason they weren't dropping pounds they would make some dietary changes. I have people ask me about this all time...about quality of food vs. calories. My answer is always, better to eat good quality food instead of empty sugar calories even if you are restricting your calories.
I have done a bunch of posts on sugar in the past because of this very topic...Instead of rewriting the same things over again I thought I'd just link them up for you!
For the girl who loves pastries you know who you are
For some help on getting through the candy filled times read How to survive the sugar aftermath
Many people are surprised as to what non-candy foods are packed with sugar, for some info on how many grams of sugar are in different foods read this post on The Sugar Low Down if you want some help on quitting your sugar habit read about how to Kick Sugar to the Curb

Like I always say, I am a firm believer in moderation in all things. I think there is room for sweets every now and again, but if you are really looking to lose weight cutting excess sugar out of your diet is one of the best things you can do.

Do you have any more questions about sugar? I would love to answer them for you! Are you a sugar-a-holic? Do you have any good secrets to curbing your sugar cravings?

megs - did you know i read your blog every day? well i do. so...does that mean some of the delicious recipes you post are out if we're trying to cut sugar? :( i love to assume any recipe you post is fair game.

i have a random question that i keep wanting to ask you. i love oatmeal for breakfast, but lately i have been obsessed with zoom. i love the texture!! its sort of crunchy. i have also been known to love cream of wheat (don't call me old). how do these compare to old fashioned oats in nutritional quality?

Recently my husband was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He's perfectly healthy, other than the diabetes of course, not overweight and very active. It's a mystery why he has it, but we've had to really look at the sugar in all foods. And the carbs. I had no idea that ketchup has sugar in it! And all the sugar in bacon! It's crazy. So don't just think that sugar is in candy and donuts and junk, it's in everyday foods. But luckily more stores and companies are providing low-sugar or sugar-free products. Check labels!!

I love sugar. About 2 years ago I went off of sugar. I continued working out like normal and I dropped 15 pounds. It is the only thing that worked for me.
Truvia was my favorite sugar substitute and has saved me many times.
I'm back on sugar and much of the weight has come back too. Who would have thought?

I quit sugar for 10-days about a month back and it really wasn't all that bad. I have added it back into my diet but definitely in moderation. And guess what? I don't really miss it.

I like Ruth would also like to know your thoughts on sugar substitutes like splenda? There are so many mixed reviews it is hard for me to know what to believe.

Hello. My name is Stefanie, and I am a sugar-aholic.

The first step to recovery is admittance, right??

Love this post, and I am totally going to check out all of those links! I could probably use a little help in the sugar department.

I have been loving agave for a sweetener lately. Especially on fruit! It's so yummy. :)
