Slather Me In Butter.

I don't like butter. I just don't. I realize that some people think that it makes everything taste better. I also know that it is necessary in some recipes. I get it. However, I am not a huge fan. It is packed full of calories and fat, and it is one of those things that is extremely hard to get my clients to cut back on.

So, what do I do instead? Let me show you.
I am a huge fan of spray butter. I spray a lil' bit on air popped popcorn, eggs, and steamed veggies. It adds a little flavor without adding all of those calories.

I have seen this butter flavored popcorn seasoning like a bazillion times at the store, and I decided last week to try it out. The verdict? I liked it. I spritzed a little spray butter on my air popped popcorn and then sprinkled a little bit of this over the top.
Voila. It made for a great low calorie snack. I love me some popcorn.
You'll notice in most of my recipes I substitute at least half, if not all, the butter out for applesauce. It saves a TON of calories and saturated fat.

You should know...There is one kind of butter that I love. In fact, I like to run allll over my body. Literally. (I am instantly reminded of the Full House episode in which the boy DJ is babysitting gets his head stuck in the stair railings and Danny has to come use a tub of butter to slide him out.)

Anyways...the butter I love? Chamois Butt'r. This stuff is AWESOME. Judi, from Paceline Products sent me some Chamois Butt'r to try out, and I was super excited about it. I have a huge. HUGE. HUGE issue with making sure my clothing doesn't bug me while I'm running. If I am doing a long run and I have any sort of chafing it makes me crazy, and it's all I think about. It seems to make my run ten times longer as I focus on the spot(s) I'm feeling the pain. I've used several different anti-chafing products and have had some successes and some failures, but I liked this product more than anything else I've tried. Why you ask?

Well... first off...check out the creativity in the packaging....

Amazing. Also, it isn't just a roll on or something that leaves you feeling like you have deodorant all over your body. It is a skin lubricant/chamois cream that goes on like lotion. It isn't greasy at all, and can actually be used to soothe skin that is already chafed or irritated. You rub it in on all the areas that you would experience chafing.
This product was designed by a cyclist, but I use it for long distance runs and I think that any athlete could use it if they are experiencing irritated or chafed skin. I also loved that this product doesn't ruin your gear. It washes easily off your skin and clothing. No chafing and no ruined clothing? Yes please. I'll take anything that will make my running life easier!! Please pass the butt'r? I think so.

So, what is your take on butter? Do you like it? Do you have substitutions that you use instead of butter? Do you have chafing issues? If so, what do you do about it?

I love the I can't believe it's not butter spray. I use it when real butter isn't absolutely necessary.

Ummm, have you signed up for the half, because I still haven't!

I always use Earth Balance or Smart Balance, which are still pretty caloric but at least a little healthier cholesterol wise. I really like having it on my toast because without it it's just bread... I generally try not to make dishes loaded with butter other than baking, and even them I try to make substitutions.

Butter! I LOVE BUTTER! I only use real butter though.

once I learned that all the fake butters have lots of chemicals and other things our bodies don't need, I decided that the small amount of butter I used was worth it instead of using whipped oil. The saturated fat isn't bad as long as you use it moderately.

You seriously sound just like me - I don't understand the whole butter craze? I am a huge fan on the spray butter though - I used to use it on everything, but now I am trying to limit the amount I intake... I have to say, it is delicious on popcorn :)

I love real butter, but we use a lot of ICBINB spray butter. My son freaks out when there is none for his morning toast.

I usually use body glide but I'm going to try chamois butter this year. I have to have something on my thighs for any run longer than 2 or 3 miles or I'm in a world of hurt.

I love I Can't Believe it's not Butter Spray, probably a little too much! Even my five year old doesn't know what to do when we are at grandma's house and there's no spray butter!

I follow our lead and sub applesauce for butter or oil when I can too. I really can't tell a differenceand feel so much better grubbing!

Love how you tied butter to chaffing! hahaha!

Oh gosh....Butter. I have a love/hate relationship with it. I actually do love me some butter spray though. I think it tastes just as good as real butter.

My husband thinks I am so weird because I don't like butter. I don't like the taste of it which is probably mostly due to the fact that I never use it. When I have to use it (like in recipes) I use I can't believe its not butter since its lower in calories and everything. I should use applesauce but since my husband loves butter he would probably not eat any of my food haha. I never use butter on toast or rolls or anything though.

I love Chamios Buttr too! That and body glide. I have major issues with chaffing on any run over 7 miles.

We had a tube of Chamios Buttr confiscated when we tried to take it through the little airport in Durango, CO. We knew it was over 3 ounces, we just didn't want to throw it away! They searched all of my husbands bags after they found it, lol!

I don't really care for butter, but I do sometimes use a little spray or spread

This is embarrassing to admit but you just allowed for a total a-ha moment over here. I love butter on popcorn but really hate soggy overly buttered popcorn. had just given up on putting butter on my homemade popcorn. I don't spend a lot of time in the butter aisle and I completely forgot this existed! I am going to get some now...and then I am going to make popcorn :-)

You are awesome.

I like butter, but only in small amounts. Too much and it makes me sick.
I like your body butter. I use body glide but it has failed me a few times and if I'm already chaffed, it doesn't seem to do much good. I'm going to have to give it a try! Thanks.

I LOVE spray butter. I actually hadn't bought butter in years but recently started using earth balance sporadically for toast. I don't know the last time I had real butter but I'm sure I wouldn't like it too much!
